HOURLY RATE:   $12.00 per hour starting salary-rate may be negotiated to a higher level based on qualifications and experience.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/QUALIFICATIONS

 

Summary

Parks Division is currently seeking Parks Utility Workers to join a highly-motivated, talented team of innovators to help strengthen the future world-class stewardship of parks in our community.   The position offers a positive and engaging environment, training, and professional growth opportunities in the green industry.  The Parks Utility Position is a seasonal position which begins as early as March and ends as late as November, but there is potential for advancement and career progression for the self-motivated employee.

 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Assist in maintenance of City parks, trails, facilities, recreational areas and downtown public spaces.

  • Learn to operate a variety of equipment including, utility vehicles, hand tools, power tools.

  • Clean and remove trash from all areas of the park including shelters and restroom facilities.

  • Assist with horticulture maintenance (shrub beds, flower beds, specialty gardens).

  • Assist with irrigation maintenance and repairs.

  • Apply chemical/herbicides with required training.

  • May help with snow removal.

    POSITION TITLE:  PARKS UTILITY WORKER – Variable Hour Employee

     

     

    Working Conditions:

  • Schedules vary from part-time to full-time and may include over-time, weekends, and holidays.

  • Working under the supervision of a crew leader, the employee will work outdoors in a variety of conditions.

  • Will wear proper safety gear including, but not limited to, safety-toed boots, safety glasses and ear protection as required.

  • Will attend weekly staff meetings and safety meetings as scheduled.


Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

 

  • Unrestricted Valid driver’s license.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Ability to pass a drug screening test.

  • Physical, mental and cognitive abilities sufficient to perform the essential duties outlined above.

  • These include:

    • Ability to read, write and communicate well with others.

    • Physical ability and stamina to perform duties including bending, lifting, digging, pushing and kneeling.

    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly; up to 50 pounds maximum.  

Proper safety measures for lifting/moving any item are expected to be followed; including, but not limited to, the use of proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), use of lifting/moving equipment, and/or assistance from co-workers.
